If you are looking for an unspoiled version of Alaska, you have found
the right cruise. Your days are spent exploring Alaska by kayak, on foot
and small excursion craft as your trip winds its way past hidden inlets
and around misty islands. Our belief is that a pod of feeding whales,
mountain goats perched on the cliffs and birds diving for their supper
are sights too important to miss. We have devised a route that explores
the untamed wilderness of Alaska’s Inside Passage, but is flexible
enough to accommodate nature’s surprises.
Day 1 Juneau Embarkation
Arrive in Juneau and head to your home for the week, the MV Wilderness
Adventurer. Drop your backpack in your cabin and come on deck for a scenic
sail-away through Juneau’s Gastineau Channel. Relax this evening
as your ship sails toward adventure.
Day 2 Glacier Bay
This is a day devoted to off-vessel activities. These waters
are home to one of the largest concentrations of migrating humpback whale
in Alaska. Begin your exploration of Glacier Bay National Park and experience
the timeless geological power of this icy wonderland.
Day 3 Glacier Bay
We wake to the breathtaking backdrop of a tidewater glacier. We devote
the entire day to cruising Glacier Bay, navigating through the milky blue,
ice-strewn waters to view thousand-foot peaks of glaciers, with high waterfalls
cascading down cliffs. Keep a keen eye for the abundant wildlife. Moose,
bears, wolves, and more all call the park home.
Day 4 Chichagof & Baranof Islands, Adventure
Activities
Today, explore the east sides of the Chichagof and Baranof Islands, pausing
for adventure activities in the crew's favorite secluded inlet. The influence
of early Russian exploration and trade is evident in the names of the
islands we explore today. Along with Admiralty Island, Baranof and Chichagof
complete this aptly named trio of “ABC Islands.” These three
landmasses, and the numerous smaller islands that dot the area, create
a watery maze that begs exploration by our small ship.
Day 5 Admiralty Island
Cruise Admiralty Island, “Fortress of the Bears,” home to
reputedly the largest population of brown bears on earth. Admiralty Island
National Monument awaits – a million acres of wilderness dotted
with small Tlingit villages. It’s another area the big ships will
never see, much less explore.
Day 6 Endicott Arm
We explore more of Alaska’s remote waterways with a full day devoted
to exploration and off-vessel activities. Likely water sightings include
harbor seals and whales. Endicott’s fjords are long, deep and narrow,
offering eye-popping views of cascading waterfalls, pristine forests,
and snow-covered peaks on the way to Dawes Glacier.
Day 7 Tracy Arm Fjord
As you cruise the narrow passages of Tracy Arm to the twin Sawyer Glaciers,
feel the presence of the frozen earth, as you are dwarfed by cliffs of
ice and surrounded by bergs in the water below. Stay on the lookout for
harbor seal that often rest atop floating chunks of ice, safe from predators.
Day 8 Juneau
Disembark after breakfast. Head for home with your included airport transfer
and fond memories. Consider spending an extra day before or after your
cruise to explore this isolated state capital.
