Nicknamed the "Venice of Brazil" for being a city built over water, Recife actually gets its name from the vast array of coral reefs that stretch along its vibrant coast. The nearby colonial town of Olinda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its cultural traditions, beautiful architecture, artwork and festivals. With a history of over 100 shipwrecks in the area, there are plentiful diving opportunities to explore some of these wrecks, which are sure to impress any underwater enthusiast.
