Starting and ending in the cultural and architectural
wonder of Barcelona, and exploring the Spanish countryside on foot,
this 8-day hiking adventure is the ideal way to experience the medieval
villages, interesting culture and beautiful scenery of Spain’s Catalonia
region. This region of Spain is well known for its incredibly varied scenery,
including dense forests, rolling hills, extinct volcanoes and stark cliff
faces. The highlight of the trip is a spectacular hiking excursion to
the remote Nuria Valley.
Day 1
Arrive Barcelona
Day 2-4 Olot
We begin our journey with a morning train and bus ride from the coast
to the Garrotxa National Park area, and the historic town of Olot. After
our group meeting, we spend the afternoon at leisure discovering this
authentic Spanish village and its two interesting museums. The following
two days you choose between hikes to the park’s many extinct volcanoes,
or visit the nearby village of Santa Pau for a journey back in time. Optional
activities include horseback riding and hot air ballooning excursions.
Day 5, 6 Vall de Nuria
We visit the remote Vall de Nuria by train and spend two days relaxing
and hiking in this picturesque area, well known by nature lovers.
Day 7 Nuria / Ripoll / Barcelona
Return to Barcelona by train. We have the afternoon free to spend one
last day exploring the cultural capital of Spain.
Day 8 Depart Barcelona
