Perhaps the easiest week-long trip we offer,
our 8 day Cuban adventure offers spectacular scenery, beaches and activities
west of Havana in Cuba's "garden province", Pinar del Rio. Take
part in the crafts, swimming and walks offered at Las Terrazas, then enjoy
the hospitality and natural beauty of the small town of Viñales
and the remote white sand beaches and marine life of Cayo Levisa.
Day 1 Arrive Havana
Day 2 Las Terrazas
We head west to Cuba's 'garden province', Pinar del Rio where we stay
at a small community and eco-resort called Las Terrazas. This area was
Cuba's first UNESCO-sanctioned biosphere reserve. Pottery, silk screening,
and painting workshops are available, as well as opportunities to hike
and swim or visit a coffee plantation.
Day 3, 4 Viñales
We take a bus to the village of Viñales, surrounded by picturesque
limestone pincushion hills. Visit the museum and the cultural centre near
the central plaza, or enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities. Exploring
caves carved in the limestone by rivers, hiking, horseback riding or simply
enjoying the views of the valley and sprawling tobacco fields below are
all options.
Day 5, 6 Cayo Levisa
50 kilometres north of Vinales we arrive at Cayo Levisa, a small, unspoiled
island with fine white sand beaches and crystal waters. Snorkelling and
scuba diving are possible on this beach area rarely visited by toursits.
The wildlife includes sea birds and waters rich in red snapper, sea bass,
lobster, marlin, and others. Optional day trip to Cayo Paraiso beach,
a favourite of Ernest Hemmingway's.
Day 7 Soroa / Havana
We stop at the mountain resort of Soroa known for its heavy rainfall and
resulting tall trees and orchids. Relax in the nearby hot springs or enjoy
the surrounding semitropical forest before we continue on to Havana for
one last night.
Day 8 Depart Havana
