Tour Itinerary

Lucca, rural bike ride, Pisa, cooking lesson, hilltop villages, vineyards, Florence. Tuscany is one of the true gems of Italy. From our accommodation in the romantic heart of its former capital Lucca, employing the kind of quiet enthusiasm we are famous for, we savour it slowly. Lucca is a magnificent medieval walled town with a rich cultural heritage stretching back to the Etruscans, after which Tuscany is named. While enjoying every modern amenity, Lucca remains a romantic, wistful place, largely unscathed by the modern world. From here we explore this wonderful region, from the quaint hilltop towns surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, to the magical city of Florence. This will be a week to remember.

Day 1-7
After settling into our lodgings it's time to get to know Lucca. This is a lovely old town in which to wander along cobblestone streets, with crooked buildings dating back centuries and a complete set of medieval walls. There are superb old churches, piazzas and shops owned by the same family for many hundreds of years. We take a leisurely cycle around the city walls, quickly leaving the traffic behind as we bike to the nearby river Serchio with the chance to lunch in the countryside. For a special treat a 'local Luccan' will come and demonstrate the delights of traditional Tuscan food and with our help, cook our evening meal for us. Delicious! We explore the wider region including Pisa, home of the famous Leaning Tower. Next, a short train ride is all it takes to reach one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Florence. Your group leader will take you on a walking tour of the principal sights in this enchanting city. There is also ample free time, giving you the opportunity to shape your time in Tuscany exactly as you want it. This is what all well deserved breaks should be like!
