This safari offers fantastic insight into the diverse
nature and landscape of Kenya. With visits to the forested highlands,
the semi-arid north, the Great Rift Valley, with the lakes lying in its
floor, and the savannah grasslands, this trip is an excellent all-encompassing
introduction to East Africa. As we pass through diverse landscapes, there
is the chance to see many different types of wildlife that live in the
protected parks we visit. In Samburu, we hope to see the Beisia Oryx,
Gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. It is
possible to see the flamingoes, Rothschild giraffes and white rhino in
Nakuru. In the Masai Mara, we may see the famous black-maned lions, and
from July to September, the annual wildebeest migration from the Serengeti
to the Masai Mara is a breathtaking sight not to be missed! We will also
have the unique opportunity to interact with the local tribes such as
the Samburu and Masai people during this Kenyan safari.
Day 1 Nairobi (L, D)
We depart Nairobi early in the morning, and drive north through the farmlands
of the Kikuyu people, eventually reaching Naro Moru in time for lunch.
This village sits at the foot of Mount Kenya, Africas
second highest mountain (5199m). The Kikuyu people deified Mount Kenya,
and actually built all of their houses with doors facing this majestic
peak.
Day 2, 3 Samburu Game Reserve (B, L, D)
Samburu Game Reserve is home to a number of wildlife species rarely found
elsewhere. We enjoy two days of game viewing in search of species such
as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich.
Day 4 Lake Nakuru (B, L, D)
Passing the northern tip of the Aberdare Mountains, then descending into
the Great Rift Valley, we come to Lake Nakuru. Lake Nakuru is a shallow
soda lake, renowned for its huge concentration of flamingoes. We spend
the afternoon game viewing in the park.
Day 5, 6 Masai Mara (B, L, D)
The Masai Mara's vast open plains and distinctive flat-topped acacia trees
provide the landscape for this memorable part of the journey. With fantastic
game viewing en route, we will arrive at Masai Mara in the late afternoon
and set up camp. Masai Mara is famous for its game viewing, with excellent
chances of seeing the "big five" - lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant
and rhino.
Day 7 Depart Nairobi (B,
L)
We enjoy one last game drive in the morning, before having a final breakfast
and heading back to Nairobi for early evening.
