Put on your walking shoes! Hike some of the
most beautiful, ancient, remote, and well-trodden trails of the National
Parks of the American Southwest!
Get as close to the soul of Zion NP as the soles of your shoes will allow.
Choose from an assortment of trails to warm up your legs or to stretch
your bravery and endurance. Follow the canyon’s cataract and the
descent of the Virgin River into the Narrows, or ascend the thin escarpment
of Angels Landing, either will fill you with awe and the inspiration to
go further and higher and deeper into this southwestern land. Bryce Canyon
NP, with its jutting and colorful hoodoos and pinnacles, offers easy to
moderate hikes along the Queens Garden/Navajo Loop Trail and the Rim Trail.
Sunset at Delicate Arch, the easily recognizable and most photographed
of the natural sandstone monuments in Arches National Park. Coincidentally,
this is also home to some of the best red-rock mountain biking in North
America.
Spend your free day off-road, or hike any number of trails skirting the
hundreds of arches in the park. In summer, spend the afternoon floating
on the Colorado River, while winter visitors may want to experience the
charms of Moab, the gateway to the parks of southern Utah. A day at Canyonlands
NP will make some hikers feel as though they are walking on the surface
of the moon. A visit to Monument Valley on Navajo Indian Lands offers
more off-road excitement of another sort, featuring a Navajo-guided tour
into the backcountry. And finally, if a picture is worth a thousand words,
then your visit to the Grand Canyon should just about fill your travel
journal!
Day 1, 2 Las Vegas/Zion
NP
Leaving Las Vegas, we begin this trip with a short drive through the Mojave
Desert into Utah, where we get as close to the soul of Zion NP as the
soles of your shoes will allow. Choose from an assortment of short and
beautiful trails to warm up your legs or, indulge in a longer hike to
Angel’s Landing, which rewards you with an overwhelmingly amazing
vista.
Day 3 Bryce Canyon NP
Walk the Queen’s Garden/Navajo Loop trail, where the countless spires,
pinnacles and hoodoos of this spectacular canyon make an indelible impression
on the mind.
Day 4 Escalante National Monument
Escalante NM is a relatively new park that remains surprisingly untouched
with strikingly beautiful landscapes that the crowds have yet to discover.
The highlight of this stop is the day hike to Calf Creek Falls where a
200 ft waterfall drops magically into the canyon.
Day 5, 6 Arches NP
Arrive in Arches NP with time to hike to Delicate Arch for an unforgettable
sunset. The next morning, Arches’ Devil’s Garden offers a
variety of hikes. The next day is devoted to visiting Canyonlands National
Park. Our afternoon hike ends with a visit to Dead Horse Point for tremendous
canyon views and another picture perfect sunset.
Day 7 Monument Valley
Then, on to the Navajo Nation’s greatest treasure, Monument Valley.
After setting up camp within view of the famous ‘monuments’,
set out on a spectacular, backcountry, 4-wheel drive and hiking tour deep
into the heart of the Valley. Our local Navajo guide then leads us up
an unmarked trail - ancient steps, chiselled into the rock by Anasazi
Indians, plus a rope ladder add excitement en route to trail’s end,
where few non-Native Americans have ever been.
Day 8, 9 Grand Canyon NP
On to Grand Canyon NP, one of those rare places that no one yet has adequately
described, painted or photographed. Watch the sunset on the first night
and attempt to comprehend this canyon’s staggering dimensions and
power. Then hike the many trails, catch a bird’s-eye view from the
awesome perspective of a helicopter, take a park ranger’s guided
nature walk, or sit in quiet contemplation on the edge of this natural
wonder.
Day 10 Depart Las Vegas
Leaving the beauty of Grand Canyon NP behind us we set out for Las Vegas.
Tour ends at our hotel at approximately 5:30 pm.
