Lake Titicaca, Cuzco, Aguas Calientes, Machu
Picchu, Lima. A condensed tour of the essential Peruvian highlights, culminating
with a visit to the "Lost City of the Incas".
Day 1 Arrive Lima
Day 2-4 Puno / Lake Titicaca (B,L,D)
We fly to Juliaca, and drive to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Enjoy
a boat trip to visit Taquile and/or Amantani islands, stopping on the
floating reed islands of the Uros people. We are then immersed into Peruvian
rural life with a homestay in a small village before returning to Puno
on Day 4.
Day 5, 6 Cuzco
Take in the spectacular views of the countryside on this full day of travel
from Puno to Cuzco, through the high Altiplano region. Enjoy scenic stops
along the way before arriving in Cuzco to relax for the evening. Spend
a free day exploring this delightful town on foot, go horseback riding,
mountain biking, whitewater rafting or visit the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman,
a massive fortress overlooking the city.
Day 7 Machu Picchu / Cuzco
A morning train takes us through the spectacular Urubamba Valley to the
village of Aguas Calientes. From here we continue to the historic spiritual
centre of the Incas, the "Lost City" of Machu Picchu. We’ll
have a guided tour of the ruins, learning about the history and importance
of Machu Picchu. Opportunity to soak in the nearby thermal baths. Return
to Cuzco by train in the evening.
Day 8 Cuzco / Lima
Time for some last minute shopping in Cuzco before flying to Lima and
enjoying one last night out on the town.
Day 9 Depart Lima
