Tanzania, a country dominated by vast, open plains,
provides some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities the continent
has to offer. Spend a day at Lake Manyara, in the hopes of seeing its
famous tree-climbing lions. Continue on to Tanzania's most famous National
Park, the Serengeti. Virtually treeless plains, breathtaking scenery and
an abundance of wildlife in this world-famous park. Visit the Ngorongoro
crater, an impressive 20km wide volcanic crater. Views from the rim are
astounding. An excellent introduction to the wonders of east Africa!
Day 1 Nairobi to Arusha
(L, D)
Our journey takes us across the border into Tanzania, arriving in the
picturesque town of Arusha in time for lunch. Arusha sits at the foot
of rugged Mount Meru, and is the gateway to most of Tanzania's wildlife
abundant parks.
Day 2 Lake Manyara (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we head to Lake Manyara National Park, famed for its
tree-climbing lions, vast flocks of flamingoes, and abundance of elephants,
hippos and water birds. Our afternoon will be spent game viewing in the
park.
Day 3, 4 Serengeti National Park (B, L,
D)
We'll enjoy one last game drive around Lake Manyara National Park, before
transferring to the world famous Serengeti National Park. This park is
to Tanzania, what the Masai Mara Game Reserve is to Kenya. Covering 14,763
sq km, the Serengeti is dominated by vast, open plains with an abundance
of wildlife. The afternoon will be spent tracking and viewing game in
this true wildlife lover's paradise.
Day 5, 6 Ngorongoro Crater (B, L, D)
We arrive at Ngorongoro Crater via the archeological site of Olduvai Gorge.
This historical site is famed for the discovery of 3.5 million year-old
fossil fragments of an early human civilization. Ngorongoro is an impressive
20km wide volcanic crater with 600m walls. The views from the crater rim
are stunning, and there is an ever-present abundance of wildlife, due
to the permanent water supply on the crater floor. We'll spend our days
here viewing the crater's prolific wildlife, including elephant, rhino
and lion.
Day 7 Marangu (B, L, D)
Our journey today takes us to Marangu village, where we will explore the
surrounding rainforest and scenic waterfalls.
Day 8 Depart Nairobi (B)
After breakfast we will transfer back to Nairobi. The tour ends in Nairobi
in the evening.
Difficulty Level
This is the ideal safari adventure for those travellers interested in
diverse wildlife, people and scenery. This is not a physically demanding
journey. We will camp at simple yet comfortable campsites, and travellers
are expected to participate in the camp and cooking duties.
