A demanding trek through thick African bush, with
the breathtaking reward of finding oneself in the company of a
family of gorillas. Sit peacefully as we observe these majestic creatures
in their natural environment. A truly unique and unforgettable experience.
This trip continues back into Kenya, with a visit to Lake Bogoria, a shallow
soda lake surrounded by hot springs and geysers. This trip introduces
some of Kenya's wonders, and also gets us up close and personal with Africa's
magnificent gorillas. This is the trip of a lifetime!
Day 1 Nairobi (L,D)
We depart Nairobi early in the morning (8am) and head past the Northern
tip of the Aberdare Mountains, and into the Great Rift Valley, which is
home to Lake Nakuru. We arrive at Nakuru in time for lunch, then spend
our afternoon game viewing in the park, famed for its huge concentration
of flamingoes.
Day 2 Transfer to Jinja (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we head to the Malaba border, where we will be picked
up and transferred to Jinja. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a refreshing
swim at the source of the White Nile.
Day 3 Kampala (B,L,D)
Today we transfer to the capital city of Kampala, and spend some time
strolling around the craft markets and getting to know the locals.
Day 4 Entebbe (B,L,D)
We continue our journey into Entebbe, with an optional visit to the chimpanzee
sanctuary on Ngamba Island. This sanctuary was established in order to
care for orphaned chimpanzees that have been rescued from poachers and
traders. The island consists of 100 acres of rainforest, and is situated
right on the equator in Lake Victoria.
Day 5 Kabale (B,L,D)
Today's journey takes us to Kabale, Uganda's highest town at 2000m, with
beautiful, lush scenery along the way. We camp at Lake Bunyonyi, the "place
of little birds", which is also Africa's deepest crater lake (900m).
Day 6 Kisoro (B,L,D)
We enjoy a beautiful drive over the mountains, as we transfer to Kisoro,
on the southwestern tip of Uganda. This evening we relax in preparation
for the gorilla trek ahead.
Day 7 Gorilla Trek (B,L,D)
Today we embark on what wildlife enthusiasts consider the experience of
a lifetime. Accompanied by our expert local guides, we trek through the
early morning mist of the Impenetrable Forest, home to roughly half of
the world's remaining 700 mountain gorillas. The trekking can be demanding
and the day long. Upon sighting the magnificent gorillas in their natural
habitat, you will see why coming face to face with these rare primates
is one of the world's most breathtaking and emotional wildlife experiences.
Day 8 Kampala (B,L,D)
Today we transfer back to Kampala, arriving just in time to enjoy some
African nightlife.
Day 9, 10 Jinja (B,L,D)
Optional activities include quad biking, a village walk, whitewater rafting,
or volunteering with the Soft Power Community Education project, which
is a 100% charitable organization that aims to make a positive difference
in the lives of Uganda's children.
Day 11 Lake Bogoria (B,L,D)
Back in Kenya, we visit Lake Bogoria, a shallow soda lake famed for its
